A file with the ADMX file extension is a Windows/Office Group Policy Settings XML-based file that serves as a replacement for the older ADM file type.Introduced in Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, ADMX files specify what registry keys in the Windows Registry are changed when a certain Group Policy setting is changed.This will update all your group policy objects in one easy step.Even if you are not running the latest OS in you environment there is no issues with updating the ADMX/ADML files as all the setting are fully backwards compatible and will just mean one less step to do when you do upgrade in the future.These policy files are available for Windows, Linux and Mac systems. Administrators and users who want to control the Google Chrome browser can do so as well but need to download and install policy templates first before that option becomes available.

Update: I had discovered that this original ADMX template were missing some Internet Explore 11 Group Policy settings.

As a result the ADMX/ADML pack has now been re-released but can be downloaded using the same link below.

So even if Microsoft does stuff up the new template and make it "non backward compatible" the worst is that it will display wrong in ADUC.

Of course you have to be careful when you change policies that you understand what the ADM template is now doing....
